Joining steel and aluminium has long posed a challenge for manufacturers. When the two metals are welded, brittle intermetallic layers can form at the joint. These hard layers can act as stress concentration zones and reduce the durability of the connection under load. The new technique aims to limit those weak points and lower the risk of fractures at the joint. SUSU is based in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk.

Samsung Electronics has unveiled its next-generation memory and storage strategy for artificial intelligence infrastructure at the 2026 OCP Global Summit. The company presented the plans at the event in San Jose, California, which runs from October 12 to 15. Samsung outlined three technology directions covering high-performance memory, Compute Express Link-based memory expansion and next-generation solid-state drives. It also plans a joint CXL demonstration with Advanced Micro Devices. The strategy targets memory limits that are slowing larger AI workloads.

Meta has introduced Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, its most capable artificial intelligence models to date. The company designed the new systems for coding, long-running AI agents and complex personal or professional tasks. Meta said the models can help users navigate insurance claims, understand leases, analyze finances and build working applications. Muse Wonder became available on October 12 through the Meta Model API and Muse Code, while Muse Wonder Full launched for Muse Code subscribers.

The proposed architecture would connect national systems without transferring control of those networks to EU institutions. Member states would continue managing their own critical communication infrastructure and national services. A member-state expert group would oversee governance of the European system. The Commission also plans cooperation with industry and research organisations as critical communication and commercial telecommunications technologies continue to develop.

Apple introduced the iPhone Duo on Sept. 9, marking its first foldable iPhone. The device starts at $1,999 in the U.S. and opens to a 7.6-inch inner display. The iPhone 18 Pro camera system adds four selectable aperture settings to control lighting and depth of field. Its main camera supports apertures of f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8 and f/4.0. The system also includes 48-megapixel Ultra Wide and Telephoto cameras. New Pro controls allow adjustments to aperture, shutter speed and white balance inside the Camera app. Users can also view a histogram while composing photos or videos. Apple has introduced Reference Image, an opt-in feature designed to help verify the authenticity of photographs. The system captures signed sensor data when users take a photo in Reference mode. That data creates a reference image that users can compare with an edited version in the Photos app. The company is also adding support for image metadata and the SynthID standard. SynthID support will arrive through a software update later in 2026.

The United States is expanding domestic battery production as it works to reduce dependence on China. The larger challenge sits deeper in the supply chain. China still dominates battery materials, processing and key manufacturing technologies used worldwide. U.S. factories have added capacity, but many depend on imported components and refined minerals. That gap has placed graphite, cathodes, anodes and lithium iron phosphate materials at the center of Washington’s battery push.

Japan is expanding its fight against investment fraud with a new system that uses artificial intelligence to spot warning signs earlier. The Consumer Affairs Agency announced the package on September 1. It will analyze consumer complaints for language and patterns linked to fraudulent schemes and failing businesses. The package says AI will supplement existing keyword searches and support earlier alerts, investigations and enforcement when complaint data indicate serious risks.
